Today I had an amazing opportunity to volunteer at a local orphanage in San José. I have never been to an orphanage in the United States let alone another country. It was a very humbling experience. For many of the students in my group, this was a chance for us to realize how blessed we truly are. Many of us rarely think of how life would be without our parents, but for these children it is their reality. The children at the orphanage didn’t have much, but they had each other and this seemed to keep them very content. They are very outgoing and happy children.

When we arrived, we served pizza and soda for the children. What kid doesn’t like pizza right after school?! We played many games with the children, helped them make crafts, & painted one of the bedrooms. By the end of my visit, glue, paint, and glitter was everywhere but the memories created were well worth it! I really enjoyed my time with the children & would love to go back to play with them. Today’s adventure encourages me to give back to the San José community even more while I am here. I have decided to go back more often and make a difference in these children’s lives.
